Welcome to a grand experiment.
My best friend and I have decided to begin a chapter for local gamers here in the Ohio Valley. Our goals are fairly simple and straightforward, to meet new and interesting enthusiasts of the hobby and perhaps enjoy some games in a friendly competitive atmosphere.'Look ere boyz, New frendz!'
I'll allow my cohort to introduce himself in a later post. I am the Lonestarr and I'm a veteran player, with a handful of Warhammer 40k armies under my belt and looking to expand into Fantasy. I've both enjoyed Necromunda and Mordhiem as well off and on for several years.
I'm hoping that by writing this blog I may be able to drum up some additional interest in our fledgling chapter. So I'll be going over some basic ideals and goals that we'd like to achieve.
The greatest among these of course is to meet new and enthusiastic players and to be able to share our love of the hobby. The goal is to have fun, and we believe no one should walk away from the table without a handshake.
A good example of how NOT to end your match.
Meets would be held on a weekly to bi-weekly basis, schedules permitting, and consist of pick up games, planning for events, and general good time of pizza and friends. Or the occasional road trip to a hobby store in PA called 'Legions'.
Governing rules for pickup games are simple. A Referee will be nominated from among members not taking part, failing that use your best judgement and sense of fairness. WYSIWYG is not required but a rundown of your entire army on what is what to your opponent and the Ref is. Lists are to be written shortly before the game, giving both players a chance to know what their up against and plan accordingly. Your army does not have to be painted. Gork and Mork knows if that was the case my orks would never see the table...
Rulebooks will be on hand and at the claim of 'Shenanigor' rules will be checked by the Ref.
'Do you even read your codex!?'
Events will be discussed during meets and whenever we have time. Fixed list tournaments, narrative games, and possible battles of apocalypse will be on the table and we'll be open to other suggestions as well. Ever wanted to try Planetstrike? Has Cities of Death caught your eye? Well an event is a great way to arrange to try these supplements out.
We are at the moment considering chapter dues. This will not be a groundbreaking amount and will be used to purchase things like snacks and refreshment, terrain pieces, community glue and tools, or even renting out a gym for a day. In lieu of cash, building scenery, managing events, or just contributing in some meaningful way to the chapter would be appreciated.
So, if any of this appeals to you and you exist in the Ohio Valley, feel free drop me a comment below with your email and name and I'll get back to you and keep an eye on the blog for future posts.
Lonestarr out.
